The Drive, Chip and Putt junior golf tournament only happens once a year. So, it’s important to make sure that your child takes all the right items on the day of the tournament.
In Drive, Chip and Putt, each contestant only gets 9 shots. There is no margin for error! So, it’s even more important to make sure your child has all the right gear to help get him or her to victory.
Here are the items which I recommend including in your packing list for Drive, Chip and Putt tournament:
- Golf clubs for each skill (pitching wedge, driver and putter). If your child has several sets, make sure you take the right one!
- Golf glove(s).
- Some golf balls and tees. Even though some balls will be provided at the tournament (for driving, they will have both balls and tees), it might still be good to have a few of your own just in case. My daughter likes using colorful balls and we definitely bring them with us. For the putting skill, kids used their own balls.
- A large golf umbrella. Depending which state you live in, you may or may not need it. Check the weather beforehand. If it’s really hot like it is in DC in summer, bringing an umbrella to protect your contestant (and yourself!) from the sun is essential. There is generally very little shade and it gets extremely hot. We’ve had 100 degrees on the day of each of our tournament. It might also rain unexpectedly. All in all, an umbrella might end up quite useful.
- Drinks and snacks. The tournament will generally offer cold water (free of charge), Gatorade and possibly some snacks (for a fee). But the selection varies greatly from club to club, so if it’s important for your child to have some particular drink flavor or snack, it’s better to bring with you in order to avoid disappointment.
- Hat.
- Sunglasses.
- Sunscreen. Again, essential for the summer weather.
- Bandaids in case of blisters etc. which can easily happen on a hot day.
- Lucky charm (especially for younger kids)
- Camera (in case you want to take photos and videos of your child).
